Sharon’s Kids founder named Community Legend

“Making smiles possible,” is the message Sharon Clark wants to share. Clark has been named as an Oshawa Community Legend because of her work through her charity Sharon’s Kids.

Sharon’s Kids, which is celebrating its 50-year anniversary, works with Durham Children’s Aid Foundation to better the lives of children in Durham Region.

The Community Legend award recognizes people and organizations whose actions positively impact the City of Oshawa. The award celebrates people who have made significant contributions to a specific initiative, helped to improve the quality of life in the Oshawa community and have made an impact at a grassroots level through initiatives. Recipients are nominated by their community.

For many years, Clark has worked to improve children’s’ lives. She created the Sharon’s Kids program at the Durham Children’s Aid Society through General Motors of Canada, which has raised over $450,000 for the Holiday Hope program.

In 1985 she was the Durham Children’s Aid Society’s volunteer of the year. She was nominated for Woman of Distinction in 1993 and received the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in 1998. In 2000, she received the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition.  Clark is involved with many community fundraisers and Oshawa businesses for Children’s Aid.
